A Crowded Weekend

In certain places in the world, this weekend was a very crowded one. In Egypt, hundreds of thousands took to the streets of Cairo to show their support for the armed forces, and continued disapproval of ousted president Mohammed Morsi. Thousands of miles away, North Koreans commemorated the 60th anniversary of the signing of a truce in the 1950-1953 Korean War, staging its largest ever military parade, and presenting an enormous “Arirang” mass games performance. And, on the other side of the world, Pope Francis celebrated mass in Rio de Janeiro before a crowd of over 3 million on the sands of Copacabana Beach. Gathered here are a dozen images from each of these events, a snapshot of people massing together this weekend for very different reasons. [37 photos]
